Extra-curricular activities

Extra-curricular activities enrich the experience of our individual pupils and the life of the school.

There is always something going on at Heriot’s. Extra-curricular activities enrich the experience of our individual pupils and the life of the school. We offer a huge range of activities each session and encourage our young people to try out a variety of pursuits outside the classroom.

New interests, skills and challenges are all there for the taking. Confidence soars and friendships are forged on climbing walls and out on the water, helping backstage and performing in bands. Activities often involve several year groups, allowing pupils of various ages to socialise and learn from each other.

Activities centre on games and sports, drama and music, and interests as varied as Italian culture and robotics. We have a Combined Cadet Force and a Pipe Band and we offer the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. Some activities happen after school and others before or during the school day; a few organise visits and trips at home or abroad. Options that involve tuition, travel or kit may incur a charge.

Charity work is another big focus and our pupils are creative and enthusiastic in their fundraising efforts. Voluntary Service is part of Activities Week for Senior 4 and 5 pupils, and a timetabled commitment in Sixth Year.

A Heriot’s education encompasses the whole child. All of these activities support this philosophy and make for a vibrant school community.
