Haikus for Joy

The Love Your Mind team and English Department have joined forces to bring you joy.

Culturally we tend to focus on the pursuit of happiness and overlook joy. But joy, that momentary experience of positive emotion, is something that you can ‘weave into your daily life’.

Joy is Simple and straightforward, ‘happiness is bigger and more complex’.

In the English Department pupils explored haikus, a Japanese verse form, as a way of encouraging pupils to acknowledge the way joy can be experienced in the smallest things.

To celebrate joy, pupils, staff and the wider Heriot’s community wrote haikus to celebrate things that bring us joy and we are happy to share their work with you.
