Joshua Soars to Success

S6 pupil, Joshua, soars to success, earning himself one of the prestigious RAF Flying Scholarships, which are on offer to RAF Air Cadets, Girls Venture Corps Air Cadets, and members of the Air Scouts and Air Explorer Scouts.

Joshua has been a member of the George Heriot’s CCF; RAF section, since S2, where he excelled and finally progressed into the Air Training Corps as a flight staff cadet. He has shown real enthusiasm for flying and completed his gliding scholarship during the summer break.

Joshua comments:

“I am pleased to be awarded an Air Cadet Pilot Scholarship. The Scholarship involves a two week course, which begins in January. The course is 12 hours of flying tuition, up to solo standard, and includes ground school and theory lessons. These 12 hours will go toward the 45 hours I need for a private pilot’s license.”

The Royal Air Force Association states

“These scholarships are awarded every year in recognition of outstanding commitment and support by young people in these organisations to the RAF Association.”

More information about the RAF Flying Scholarships can be found here.

We wish Joshua the best of luck with obtaining his full pilot’s license.

Heriot’s offer a huge range of activities each session and encourage our young people to try out a variety of pursuits outside the classroom. A full list of our extra-curricular clubs can be found on our Junior and Senior pages
