As war looms, a lonely and deflated Richard Hannay seeks a pastime that will relieve him of the mundanity of life and the tribulations of being back home in Blighty after a whirlwind trip to Canada. Deciding on a mindless trip to the theatre to cure the boredom, it’s not long before he becomes embroiled in a thrilling chase across the country to protect the 39 steps.
