SAME STORM, DIFFERENT BOAT

While we are all experiencing the same storm…we are not in the same boat.

The Junior School have been creating and decorating Origami Boats during their lessons with the Learning Enhancement team, to help them think about their experiences in lockdown.

Pupils wrote messages on their boat to convey both positive and negative emotions they experienced during the lock down period. Each year group, one by one, walked up to the quad to lay the boats out to symbolise that we are all back together as a Heriot’s Community.

You can see some of the artistic designs amongst the 600 boats that were created, in the gallery below.

Learning Enhancement is unique to George Heriot’s School. Introduced in 1999, it has a huge impact on children’s learning and wellbeing, and in 2019 was formally recognised by SAPERE as gold standard. The LE team of experienced Primary teachers has devised a curriculum for pupils from Nursery to Primary 7 comprising activities based on Resilience, Emotional Intelligence, Philosophical Enquiry and Thinking Skills.
