We have been celebrating National Careers Week, with a host of visiting speakers and resources for senior pupils. S1-S5 pupils all took part in a Careers-based lesson during their Citizenship period.
Monday 7 March
The week started with a Senior School careers-focused assembly, introducing National Careers Week (#NCW2022) and discussing subject choices and transferable skills.
Tuesday 8 March
Motivational career-inspired quotes were displayed around campus, showing a host of quotes relating to adulthood:
“Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life”
“Do what you love and success will follow. Passion is the fuel behind a successful career”
Thursday 10 March
Ian Murray, MP for Edinburgh South, joined the Higher Politics class. He fielded questions on Labour policy, Ukraine, and general aspects of UK politics. Thank you to Ian Murray for giving up his time to speak to the pupils.
Friday 11 March
Zinnie Harris visited an Advanced Higher English class for the afternoon. Zinnie is a Professor of Playwriting and Screenwriting at St Andrews University and held a creative writing workshop. Thank you to Zinnie for giving up her time to share her knowledge.
Prof Mawdsley spoke to pupils in the lecture theatre about twentieth century Russian history and the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The After Heriot’s blog showcases former pupils and their career journeys after leaving school, which is a helpful resource for pupils as they make career choices.
