A Royal Visit

Heriot’s Pipe Band and Highland Dancers perform at the Palace of Holyroodhouse

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended a Beating Retreat by The Massed Pipes and Drums of the Combined Cadet Force in Scotland at the Palace of Holyroodhouse on Thursday 27 May, during their Royal Tour of Scotland.

Heriot’s Highland Dancers and Pipe Band thoroughly enjoyed performing at the Palace and spoke with the Royal Couple during the event.

Mr MacIntyre, Heriot’s Pipe Major commented:

Many congratulations to the Heriot’s pipers, drummers and highland dancers who took part in the Scottish Schools’ CCF Beating Retreat at Holyrood Palace on Thursday 27th May. This was a particularly special evening for all concerned as the salute was taken by HRH, the Duke of Cambridge.

This was the first performance for our Pipe Band and Dancers in quite some time. Nevertheless, the standard was extremely high, the massed pipes and drums sounded wonderful and the dancers performed beautifully.

After the performance, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge took time to chat to the performers.

Well done to all who took part!

Ms Ronnie is in charge of the Highland Dancers and commented:

The dancers all had a fantastic time at the Palace, dancing for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

They enjoyed being at the Palace, and being allowed in the grand rooms on the second floor. Four of the dancers doing the Broadsword did a sword salute to their future King and Queen!

The dancers practised so much over the recent weeks and looked immaculate, the Duke even complimented them on their hair as he thought it looked very smart! Well done to all involved.
