The Senior Rights Respecting Schools group met at the beginning of term and discussed what we can do as a school to support the current refugee crisis.
The pupils have been watching and reading about events in Afghanistan and are concerned about the lives of children and adults who have been affected. As a Gold level Rights Respecting School, Heriot’s has participated in various human rights campaigns over the past 10 years and a reach out went to the whole school community to provide practical support for refugees.
Care4Calais is a volunteer refugee charity working with refugees in the UK, France and Belgium and have a local volunteer in Edinburgh who is co-ordinating collections. Pupils learned of Care4Calais and their work during assembly and were asked to bring in 1 item of clothing.
A huge thank you to the Heriot’s community for the support and generosity they’ve shown in response to the request. It has been a very positive start to the RRSA work this year.
