University is the main destination for Heriot’s leavers. Some will take a gap year first, but most will go directly from Heriot’s into higher education. This reflects how hard work and achievement can unlock tremendous opportunity.

A handful of leavers opt not to go to university. The Careers Team supports those who wish to enter further education or employment instead. We also connect leavers with mentoring opportunities now or in future; former pupils and friends of Heriot’s are often happy to share their insight and experience.
