Biology Department

On Friday 15 November, all pupils in S5 and S6 studying either Biology or Human Biology, were treated to a lecture delivered by Professor Lorna Marson. The Gift of Life presentation was focused on the area of tranplant surgery; specifically kidney transplants and Professor Marson’s interests in scientific research into a new drug therapy that hopes to increase the percentage of successful outcomes, following surgical intervention.

As the first female Professor of Surgery to practise at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, and as the Director of Admissions for the Edinburgh University Medical School, Professor Marson was able to give a very lucid account of life as a surgeon and present key information, relevant to those pupils thinking of making applications to the Medical School. We were delighted such an eminent role model could join us again at Heriot’s and were pleased to see so many pupils taking part in the lively debate.
