Heriot’s pipe band participates at Lorient Festival Interceltique from 12 to 18 August and pupils are sharing their experience from the festival.
After a long day of travelling the band stepped into glorious French sunshine. Following a quick break for food and rest, they straight into rehearsals for the upcoming shows. Here the band is parading through the town of Calan, finishing with a performance of their repertoire which was well received by the French hosts. After a well deserved sleep the band went into a day of rehearsals including a practice in FC Lorient’s stadium for their show later this week.

The past couple of days have been busy with rehearsal and shows. The band was well-received at Village Celte for the first concert of the day. We had a chance to explore the cobbled streets of Lorient and to see the start of the festival. The first stadium shows were incredible as Rory brought a tear to people’s eyes when playing his solo in Amazing Grace.
The following day the band were up early for rehearsals and members of the band were invited to participate in a fashion show, showcasing the band uniform. Later that day we set off on a parade through Lorient. We marched to the harbour and ended our parade with Amazing Grace as people hummed along.
The second stadium show started with rain as the Pipe Band accompanied the highland dancers. Each night the stadium is packed with excitement from the audience, and we are really looking forward to the final show.
