Intermediate Biology Challenge

Fantastic success for S5 pupils who took part in the 2020 Intermediate Biology Challenge.

This year, students had to complete the competition during the lock down conditions and while the competition is always unashamedly challenging – this year all entrants deserve special recognition for taking part.

Over half of George Heriot’s entrants achieved at a level high enough to be Commended or above. Congratulations to top scorer in school and Silver Award holder: Partyk Michlewski. Very well done also to Douglas Richards who also achieved a Silver Award.

Bronze Awards will be awarded to: Briana Baxter-Stevenson, Ailsa Wight, Katherine Mellor and Jessica Stuart. In addition, Abbie Lascelles, Noah McDermott, Angus Michell and Adele Wilson were all Highly Commended. Thomas Forster, Florence Johnson, Annabel Millman, Isabella Ritchie and Anna Shirlaw will all receive certificates of Commendation.

A huge thank you also goes to Mr Ramage, from the Biology Department, who has organised the Royal Society of Biology Competitions for over a decade as he moves forward into his retirement.

Jack has taken on a challenge of running 3k every day in June, including his birthday, to raise money for Edinburgh Zoo. So far he’s run 66 km and has raised £766 with another week to go. His last run will be on 30 June, where he will finish outside the zoo itself.
