George Heriot’s: The UK Infected Blood Inquiry

George Heriot’s: The UK Infected Blood Inquiry

George Heriot’s School is hosting a unique opportunity on Thursday 2 October, 6-8pm, where Former Pupil, Brian Langstaff, (1966) will hold his first public lecture in relation to the 2024 Infected Blood Inquiry Report.

The Inquiry examined why men, women and children in the UK were given infected blood and/or infected blood products; the impact on their families, how the authorities (including government) responded, the nature of any support provided following infection, questions of consent,  and whether there was a cover-up.

Since being appointed to Chair the Inquiry on 8 February 2018, Sir Brian spent the intervening six years with his team painstakingly gathering documents and evidence so that public concerns which had called for the Inquiry could be properly, fully and openly addressed.

George Heriot’s School is Scotland’s leading independent school, established in 1628 to provide an education for Edinburgh’s faitherless bairns. The founder’s vision of ‘distributing chearfullie’ of generosity, of kindness and of support has enabled 5,700 bereaved children to benefit directly from the generosity of the Heriot’s Foundation.

Sir Brian Langstaff was called to the Bar in 1971 and appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1994. Sir Brian was called to the Bar of Northern Ireland in 1999, appointed to the High Court in 2005 and served as President of the Employment Appeal Tribunal for four years from 2012. As of 1 May 2018, Sir Brian retired from the High Court to work full-time on the Infected Blood Inquiry.
