Last week, Heriot’s welcomed pupils from Currie High School, George Watsons and Royal High School for the first Higher Politics and Modern Studies conference that was held in our school.
This conference was a highly anticipated event that brought together scholars, field experts and students for Edinburgh schools and the surrounding areas. The conference featured a line up of distinguished guest speakers, Mr James Cook (BBC), Mr Daniel Johnson (MSP), Mr Angus Robertson (MSP), and Professor Sir John Curtice (University of Strathclyde).
They shared their research and insights on topics related to the demographic political system in the UK, the implications of the UK’s decisions to leave the European Union (EU), the factors that influence our voting behaviour including class, age and media and lastly, the different ways in which citizens can influence government decision-making.
In addition, pupils engaged in lively debates and discussions on the political issues that were presented with a care about the challenges that society is currently facing.
This conference provided an excellent platform for networking, knowledge sharing, and intellectual growth and was widely regarded as a success by all the attendees.
Thank you to our teachers for organising this spectacular event and to all the visiting pupils and guest speakers who attended.
