Change a Life

Heriot’s spends about £1.6 million each year on funding supported places for bursary and Foundation pupils. This funding comprises money raised through investments, through kind donations and through a small percentage of fee income.

With the constraints placed on parents through the addition of 20% VAT on fees, and the raising of NI payments for employers, funding on supported places is becoming ever more challenging.

If you would like to support the school with widening access, there are a few ways you can do this.

  1. Donate to the Foundation400 programme to support Heriot’s historic Foundation and the education of children who have lost a parent.
  2. Donate to a Living Foundation place, which essentially funds a place today for a child who is bereaved of a parent, in keeping with George Heriot’s original vision.
  3. Donate to the Bursary Today Club. Launched in 2024, the school is raising money to offer additional bursarial places and in just over a year has raised enough money to fund two new six-year Senior School bursaries, one from 2025-26 and a second from 2026-27.
