Last week at George Heriot’s was spent celebrating the Chinese Year of the Rat. A range of activities were organised by the Modern Languages Department. Activities included a Chinese Quiz, which involved almost 200 S1 to S3 pupils; comparing different cultures’ New Year celebrations; and presenting in assemblies about individual experiences of learning Chinese.
The Catering Team also took part, and provided traditional Chinese food, such as fried noodles, rice and wraps, as lunch options.
Finally, some Mandarin pupils held a successful bake sale, to raise money for CHAS. Homemade cakes and biscuits were on offer as well as some Chinese sweets and cookies. The pupils managed to raise £141, which will be distributed chaerfullie to the chosen charity.
