Throughout the school year, George Heriot’s hosts events and individual visits for prospective parents. Families are encouraged to arrange individual visits to see the school in action on a normal school day. Visits are available during term time and can be arranged by contacting the Admissions Office – contact details can be found here.
Our on campus events are also popular and we welcome prospective parents into the school so you can understand the magic of an education at Heriot’s, speak to relevant departments, and ask any questions you may have.
Booking is essential for all events. Please book your tickets through the links below. Please note that booking pages for Nursery: Storytime with Mary Poppins (January) and Heriot’s in Action (February) will not be open until late 2025.
Open Morning – For prospective parents of any year group
Heriot’s annual Open Morning is held on the last Saturday in September each year. The next Open Morning will be held on Saturday 27 September 2025 to which you and your family are warmly welcomed. The day will consist of a Presentation in the School Hall, pupil or self-led tours of the campus and a wide range of activities, experiments and displays happening throughout the morning. To help you plan your day please see below:
On arrival you will be given a map and directed to the School Hall for the presentation. If you arrive after the presentation you can pick up a Junior or Senior School Guide from the playground or find out more about the self-tour route which can be viewed via the QR code on the map. Refreshments will be available throughout the morning in our Refectory with delicious samples of the menu plus warm drinks served throughout the morning. Limited crèche spaces will be available from 9.45am-12.30pm for children aged 2-5 years old. Under 2s can use the facility during the Junior School presentation but must be collected after this. Given the central location of the School which is excellently serviced by public transport and active travel connections, we encourage visitors to use these methods of travel to the School where possible. However, should you need to travel by car, there is no parking available on site but parking is available in the NCP car parks in the Quartermile development opposite the School and on Castle Terrace. Heriot’s in Action – For prospective parents of the Junior School
Heriot’s runs periodic short 1.5 hour snapshot tours of the Junior School during this event, to showcase the magic taking place in classrooms. These offer a small number of families a personalised, light touch opportunity to see the school in action with others; refreshments are included. The next Heriot’s in Action events will be taking place on Thursday 6 November 2025 and Tuesday 10 February 2026. Tickets for the November event are available here.
Nursery: Storytime with Mary Poppins – for prospective parents of the Nursery
On Saturday 17 January, Heriot’s welcomes prospective parents to join us for a morning in the Nursery from 9:30-10:30am. Enjoy a story from Mary Poppins, visit the nursery, meet teachers and early year practitioners, and ask questions. Above all, enjoy the experience of the Nursery in action.
