George Heriot’s Trust continues to support broad access to our School, regardless of background or financial situation, and is therefore keen to ensure our bursarial places focus on helping those that would not otherwise be able to attend the School.

To enable us to make the best decisions on bursary applications, we ask that every applicant (for both new applicants and current recipients of Heriot’s bursaries) provides a personal statement in support of their application. This is a key part of the process, and we are unable to accept application forms that do not provide this.

The personal statement should be submitted on a separate sheet and be no more than 500 words (preferably in Microsoft Word format) covering the following areas:

Why your child is/would be a suitable candidate to benefit from a bursary at George Heriot’s School
An explanation on why financial aid is required and any additional details on any assets held
A concise summary of any particular family circumstances or other information you wish us to consider.

Letters confirming amount of pension currently being paid
Letters confirming current level of benefits received
Confirmation of any bursarial support or fee remission currently received
Recent bank statements of all accounts (to show at least 6 months’ transactions)
Copies of recent credit card and other loan statements (to show at least 6 months’ transactions)
For any property for which rental income is received please provide details on a separate sheet of gross rental income and the deductible expenses (including loan interest) for tax purposes – our assessment will be based on net taxable income

The Governors’ decision is final and there is no right to appeal.
