Most Herioters head off to universities in the UK and overseas; destination data for the past five years can be viewed below. University is the main destination for leavers. Some take a gap year first, but most will go directly from Heriot’s onto higher education. This reflects how hard work and achievement can unlock tremendous opportunity.
A handful of leavers choose a non university pathway. The Careers Team supports those who wish to enter further education or employment and can connect leavers with mentoring opportunities now or in the future; former pupils and friends of Heriot’s are often happy to share their insight and experience.
Destinations of leavers (2025 cycle)
Heriot’s pupils enjoyed achievement across the board as they turned school success into real work success. 98% of pupils received two or more offers on UCAS, with 91% achieving their first choice selection and 95% achieving their first or second. We saw 100% of Medical applicants receive offers, as well as all Oxbridge offer holders achieving their conditions. 28 pupils received unconditional offers to St Andrews, and we saw applicants study all over the UK. 100% of S5 applicants received offers, and several former pupils were supported in additional applications, all of which were successful.
100% of pupils have reached a positive destination over the last 5 years, an impressive feat that was commended in our recent Inspection Report.
The Careers Department remains committed to helping pupils reach their full potential, whatever their destination.
