One of George Heriot’s strategic objectives is to widen access to the school, specifically through our bursarial support programme. Information on how to apply for a bursary can be found on the Scholarships, Foundation & Bursaries page.
Heriot’s spends about £1.6 million each year on funding supported places for bursary and Foundation pupils. This funding comprises money raised through investments, through kind donations and through a small percentage of fee income.
With the constraints placed on parents through the addition of 20% VAT on fees, and the raising of NI payments for employers, funding on supported places is becoming ever more challenging.
If you would like to support the school with widening access, there are a few ways you can do this.
Donate to the Foundation400 programme, which seeks to fund Foundation places in perpetuity. The campaign target is to raise £15 million by 2058 which will fund all future foundation places at Heriot’s. The campaign has raised £4million since 2015 when it was launched. See here to read about this campaign.
Donate to a Living Foundation place, which essentially funds a place today for a child who is bereaved of a parent, in keeping with George Heriot’s original vision. If you would like to donate to a Living Foundation place, please contact the development team.
Donate to the Bursary Today Club. Launched in 2024, the school is raising money to offer additional bursarial places and in just over a year has raised enough money to fund two new six-year Senior School bursaries, one from 2025-26 and a second from 2026-27. If you would like to join this campaign, a regular monthly donation of £33.33 or an annual donation of £400 is one way to help us fund another six-year bursary.
Change a life and help George Heriot’s to fund places and support those who are in need. If you would like an initial conversation about this, please email dev@george-heriots.com
