The Board of Governors of George Heriot’s Trust is seeking to appoint a new Governor, to fill a vacancy which has arisen following the retiral of Mr Allan Sim, Chartered Accountant. The appointment would be for a period of three years, with the opportunity for re-appointment for further terms.
A Nominations Committee has been set up by Board, in accordance with the Trust Regulations, to consider applications and nominate to the Board its preferred candidate for appointment. The successful candidate will be encouraged to serve on one or more Committees of the Board, which is likely to include the Finance and Resources Committee.
This is an exciting time to support Heriot’s, which was recently awarded ‘Independent School of the Decade’. A new Principal was appointed during 2021 who is in the process of developing a long-term strategy for the school. The Governor role will work with the School to advise and assist in driving this strategy from a financial perspective.
Applicants should be able to demonstrate commitment and enthusiasm and be willing to contribute time towards the well-being of the School, its ethos and strategic aims. The Board seeks to reflect the scale and complexity of the School in its membership, with its Governors having a mix of interests, competencies and experience reflecting all aspects of the work of the School and the Trust. The Nominations Committee would be particularly keen to receive applications from candidates who have skills and experience in the areas of finance and accountancy. Previous knowledge of charities accounts would be helpful.
If you would be interested in finding out more about this opportunity to serve the Heriot’s community as a Governor, please email HR@george-heriots.com to request an application pack.
Closing Date for Applications is Noon on Friday 28 October 2022
Heriot’s is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share in this commitment.
This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007 and the successful candidates will be required to obtain membership of the PVG scheme.
George Heriot’s Trust is an Equal Opportunities employer, and we welcome applications from all sections of the community.
