Teaching Staff

Learning and teaching and the pastoral care of pupils at Heriot's are entrusted to a staff of 135 full-time and 20 part-time teachers.

In recruiting its teachers the School looks not just for appropriate qualifications (which must fulfil the requirements for registration with the General Teaching Council for Scotland), but also enthusiasm, commitment, a genuine care for the welfare of young people and ability to inspire pupils in their learning. All Heriot's teachers are expected to contribute to the School's extra-curricular programme, and they do so with great imagination and energy across a huge range of activities.

Teaching in the Senior School is organised by subject departments, while each class in the Junior School is in the care of a Primary specialist. Staff from the Art & Design, Computing, Drama, Modern Languages, Music, Physical Education and Support For Learning Departments teach not only in the Senior School but also in the Junior School, providing specialist teaching in these areas to our Primary pupils.
