Junior and Senior School Libraries

George Heriot’s School benefits from having both a junior and a senior school library on site. The Junior School library is situated in the Old Building and the Senior School Library is situated in the school hall building. It is open to pupils before and after school, at break and at lunchtime. It has a wide range of resources, such as:

  • Fiction
  • Non – fiction (including textbooks and past papers)
  • Reference
  • 10 PCs
  • Printing and photocopying facilities
  • Daily newspapers
  • Weekly and monthly magazines and journals
  • Audio books
  • CDs for use by music students
  • DVDs
  • A careers section

S6 have timetabled study periods in the library and some classes may book the library for lessons. S6 also have the opportunity to use the nearby Edinburgh University Library and Central Library for study.

From S1 onwards, pupils have the chance to volunteer as library assistants and come in at lunchtime to help with the running of the library.

The library also organises the annual Kids Lit Quiz and plans to hold a regular reading group for pupils.
