Fifteen GHS Air Cadets flew to the south west of the country to attend our annual summer camp based at RAF St Mawgan. Sixty cadets in total attended camp from various schools around the country.

Coasteering, Paddleboarding a ten man giant paddle board, the Big Air at the Eden Project and ‘flying' in the prone position high above the biodomes were just a few of the many highlights.

100m target shooting, which for our recruits was their first ever opportunity to fire live on a range was very successful with our own Michael Tollervey being award top equal best shot.

Coastal walks and beach games culminating with the ubiquitous Cornish ice cream were often the order of the day.

A visit to the Academy of Resilience and Defence Survive, Evade, Resist, Extract (SERE) was a real treat for our cadets to try on some of the high tech survival equipment used to aid our troops in the often hostile environments in which our tri-services operate.

In addition, Fieldcraft with laser taging, STEM activities and navigation challenges at the dunes outside Penhale continued the multi activity camp ending with a barbeque on the beach to round off the perfect week.

Our GHS cadets were praised throughout for their enthusiasm and attitude with Sgt Heather Tweedie receiving the top female cadet (and overall best cadet) at camp award.

Our annual summer camp is the culmination of a very busy year however there are even more events organised this summer for our GHS RAF Air Cadets who are participating in:

  • The Royal International Air Show at RAF Fairford
  • The prestigious Air Cadet Leadership Course, RAF HQ at Cranwell College
  • The Helicopter(Chinook & Puma) experience flights at Leuchars
  • Scholarship Flying programme taking place this summer at Dundee Airport
