Winter Skills

A group of S4 pupils experienced both the pleasures and challenges of walking in the Scottish mountains in winter. On Saturday the weather was ideal and there was plenty of deep snow. This made it hard work at times however the group managed to climb high on Stob Coire Sgoilte in glorious sunshine and enjoyed clear views over the snow covered Aonach Eagach ridge and across to the Mamores. On Sunday the weather closed in and it was a very different experience. These conditions allowed opportunities for walking in crampons, using ice axes and digging snowholes, which proved to be ideal shelters for lunch in prevailing wind and snow !
