Going for Gold for LGBT Rights

George Heriot’s School has become the first in Scotland to be awarded the Gold LGBT Youth Scotland charter award.  The award is in recognition of Heriot’s sector-leading work to support Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender young people.  LGBT Youth Scotland, one of the country’s largest youth and community-based organisations for LGBT people in Scotland, have affirmed Heriot’s inclusive approach to ensuring that LGBT young people are fully supported in school.  The school has worked tirelessly over the last few years to ensure that its culture, ethos and practices reflect the values outlined in LGBT Scotland’s Charter for Schools.

Principal Cameron Wyllie stated that he was “immensely proud of the determination and hard work of pupils and staff in working together to create a school environment where everyone can be themselves and feel nurtured.”
