Appointment of Principal

Below is a copy of the letter emailed to Parents/Guardians this afternoon regarding the appointment of our new Principal

Dear Parent or Guardian,

The Governors are pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Cameron Wyllie, our current Head of Senior School, as Principal of George Heriot's School.

As you know, Mr Wyllie was appointed Acting Principal at the end of September and has been extremely successful in leading the management team and wider staff over the past few months.

In considering the best long-term outcome for the school, the Governors reviewed all options. Whilst Mr Wyllie had not previously considered the role of Principal for himself, he has repeatedly demonstrated in his long career at Heriot's and particularly over the last few months his complete dedication to the school and his considerable leadership capabilities.

When he indicated his intention to seek the permanent role of Principal, the Governors carried out a detailed and rigorous process, as a result of which it was clear that he possesses all the necessary qualities and attributes of an excellent Principal for Heriot's and would command the energetic support of the Senior Management Team.

I am therefore very pleased to inform you that following a unanimous decision of the Board of Governors, Mr Wyllie has been offered and has accepted the position of Principal.

His commitment to the school and his track record of achievement here is impressive. He has been Head of Senior School for 13 years, during which time the Senior School has gone from strength to strength. He will continue to lead Senior School admissions.

It will, of course, be necessary to appoint a new Head of Senior School and the recruitment process to fill this post will begin immediately the new term starts.

The Governors are grateful to staff, pupils and parents for their support and assistance over the past three months and have every confidence in Mr Wyllie and his team to continue the tradition of care and achievement for which Heriot's has become known.

May I ask you to let your children know about Mr Wyllie's appointment? He will talk to the School about this at the start of the new term.

I am sure you will join me in warmly welcoming this appointment and wishing Mr Wyllie every success in his new role.

Finally, may I take this opportunity to wish you and your families a very Happy Christmas.

Yours sincerely,

Michael J. Gilbert
Chairman of Governors
