Teacher of Physics

Full time; Fixed term (Maternity Cover) or Probationer until June 2019

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed Teacher of Physics to join our successful Physics Department from August 2018. This is a temporary contract for the purpose of covering Maternity Leave.

The Physics Department comprises three full-time teachers and a part time teacher in addition to the Principal Teacher. The Department is well-resourced, with four laboratories and is supported by a dedicated Technician. We seek to make the teaching and learning of all aspects of Physics challenging and rewarding and encourage the development of knowledge and understanding and problem-solving skills in a variety of contexts.

At Heriot's Physics is taught to all pupils in S1 and S2 and in S3 and S4 pupils can opt for National 5 Physics. In S5, Higher Physics is offered and in S6 Physics is offered at Advanced Higher level. This is a high-achieving Department, which has enjoyed excellent success rates in SQA National Examinations. The successful candidate must be willing to teach across all levels and appropriate support will be provided in line with his/her level of teaching experience.

In addition to curricular commitments, the successful candidate will be required to participate fully in the extra-curricular life of the School.
