Pupils will be introduced to the different athletics track and field events and be able to practise for Sports Day. Pick up basic skills in cricket and tennis.

There is also provision for extra Athletics practices on a Saturday and Tuesday after school, and the possibility of being involved in athletics matches.

Cricket has an additional practice on a Tuesday after school with a few competitive matches on Saturday mornings.

Our Sailing games option takes place in partnership with Port Edgar Watersports, who run the sailing school at Port Edgar. A 30-40 minute minibus ride from school takes us to South Queensferry, arriving back at Heriots between 6.30 and 7pm depending on traffic. You will learn about how a boat interacts with and makes use of the simple power of the wind to go where you point it. You will learn teamwork, as most of the sailing is done in double-handed boats. You will learn how to be safe on the water, and how to get the boat sailing again if you capsize.

Rowing (co-ed) - this takes place on the Union Canal. The GHSRC boathouse is located off of Colinton Road near Meggetland Sports Pavilion. S3 pupils get an introduction to rowing and rowing training, both on and off of the water. Whole club circuits takes place in the old gym from 6-7pm on a Monday evening (as optional additional fitness training).

Dance - this takes place in the Dance Studio with our specialist and incorporates a number of different dance styles and fun routines for all.

S4-6 Summer Games Options

Pupils in S5 and S6 are allowed to opt out of the summer games programme to concentrate on their studies.

Rowing - The GHSRC boathouse is located off of Colinton Road near Meggetland Sports Pavilion. Whole club circuits takes place in the old gym from 6-7pm on a Monday evening (as additional fitness training). S4-S6 competitive rowers can attend extra practices on a Wednesday (3:30-5:30) and S5 and S6 can attend addition training on a Thursday evening (7-9pm).

Pilates - Summer term Pilates is an extension for the pupils who chose it as their winter games option. Pupils who are new to the activity will be able to take it up next session during the winter term.
