Facilities and Staff
George Heriot's School enjoys what must be one of the most impressive locations of any school, in the shadow of Edinburgh Castle and within a few minutes walking distance of Edinburgh's historic Royal Mile. All Heriot's pupils from Nursery to Senior 6 are provided for here on one well integrated site with facilities spanning the full 3-18 curriculum.
The School also has an extensive sports ground at Goldenacre two miles away just to the north of Edinburgh's New Town, a boat house for rowing on the Union Canal at Craiglockhart, and a field centre near Bridge of Orchy in the Scottish Highlands.
Heriot's sets great store by the quality of its human resources. Our 155 permanent teaching staff (135 full-time and 20 part-time), are all graduates with qualifications for registration with the General Teaching Council for Scotland. Apart from what they offer in their various curricular and pastoral capacities, they embody a huge range of interests and skills which support the School's extra-curricular activities, and all contribute enthusiastically to the life of the School beyond the classroom.
The work of learning and teaching at Heriot's is ably supported by a non-teaching staff of around 80 employees, 45 of them full-time and the rest part-time, including those in term-time only posts, who provide services in Catering, Administration, Finance, Support Services and other ancillary roles.
