Sch0ol Song Competition
The competition has now been completed - see News item .
To: Parents/Guardians of all Junior and Senior School Pupils, Governors, Staff and S6 FPs (2008 and 2009)
Dear Member of the Heriot's Community
As part of the School's celebrations for the 350th Anniversary of the first entry of pupils to the School, I am delighted to announce a competition to write a new School Song! I should very quickly add that there is no intention of replacing "The Merry Month of June" or of up-dating it.
In the fullness of time, we may decide to use the new song in a variety of ways and, indeed, it may possibly be sung at June day; that will very much depend on the style and content of the winning entry.
What the judges will be looking for is a song that captures the spirit of Heriot's in the 21st Century. The song can reflect any musical genre and we are hoping for entries from a wide variety of pupils, parents, staff and governors whatever their musical accomplishments. You don't need to be able to write music to enter - the process details are on the entry form, which is available from Margaret Jones in the Music Department Office.
The prize for the winning entry will be £500, although far greater than that will be the satisfaction in contributing to this very important historic anniversary for the School. The closing date for entries is Wednesday 16 December 2009, after which we hope to give you the chance to hear at least some of the entries received, so get composing and lyric-writing and maybe you will write the Christmas No 1!
With best wishes
Cameron Wyllie
