Junior School News

Arthur, our school gardener has been working with P3.  As Molly, Catriona and Campbell of P3L report:

Two months ago we planted some potatoes with Arthur.  We planted them in damp soil and then we waited for them to grow. When they were ready Arthur showed us how many had grown from one potato.  There were almost 20 potatoes from the two we planted!  Some of them were big and some were small.  P3 also planted some chive seeds and Arthur grew them in the greenhouse and when they were ready we planted them in the Fruit Garden.  We cooked some of the potatoes with the chives and ate them!  They were yummy-scrummy!  When we were planting the chives we saw that there were strawberries, peaches, pears, raspberries and apples that were starting to grow.  It is very exciting to watch them!”

Arthur has also been helping P3 with their minibeasts topic.  As members of P3 report:

“Arthur showed us some frogspawn from the pond in the Wildlife Garden and we watched it turn into tadpoles. Over the past couple of weeks we have been watching tiny caterpillars grow into big caterpillars.  Each P3 class has had five caterpillars that are now in their chrysalides. They are going to be Painted Lady Butterflies. We can’t wait to watch them flutter about! We are finding it really interesting to watch them change and grow. When they are butterflies we are going to set them free into the Wildlife Garden.”
