George Heriot's School - History
Introduction
Jinglin' Geordie's Legacy
New History of Heriot's
This section provides a brief illustrated history of the founding of George Heriot's Hospital and of the development of the "Wark" - nowadays known as "'The Old Building" of George Heriot's School. It begins with the story of Heriot himself and explains the bequest of his wealth for the protection and education of children in his native City.

It then recounts a little of what is known of the governors, architect-masons and city officials who were involved in the early history of the HospitaI and it goes on to describe and to depict the architectural features and additions which, through the centuries, have contributed to making the Old Building one of Edinburgh's most magnificent monuments.
