S2 Chinese Afternoon

Around the time of Chinese New Year an afternoon sesssion is arranged during which S2 pupils are given an introduction to aspects of Chinese geography, history and culture, and  to learn a few words of Mandarin. Chinese food is available for everyone in the Refectory at lunchtime, and then the S2 pupils spend the afternoon doing a series of workshops which include tai chi, dance, music, Chinese tea, kung fu, calligraphy and paper cutting. This is followed up with more activities in their registration classes.  The following report is by Inseo Yun of S2.

We took part in a Chinese afternoon event on Wednesday 10 February. Everyone was given a timetable which consisted of three activities which we went round. First, I did Tai Chi which was interesting - some of us began laughing because we were getting our lefts and rights mixed up, but it was still fun! Our next activity was music - we got to try playing a range of instruments and learnt a lot about traditional Chinese music. Our final workshop of the day was arts and crafts: we made our own Chinese decorations as Chinese New Year was that weekend. Overall, the day was exciting, if not a cold experience, scampering round the frozen playground in shorts!
