Outdoor Education
This session ‘Outdoor Activities' is available as a Games option for S4-S6. The Tuesday afternoon activity programme includes: Canoeing, Orienteering, Climbing, Survival Skills and Hill Walking. The course is intended to be progressive and after each period of activity there is a weekend day trip where the pupils can apply their new found skills in a more advanced environment. Towards the end of the programme pupils will organise and participate in an adventure weekend in the Scottish highlands.
The aim of the Outdoor Activity programme is to develop the skills of leadership and personal responsibility as well as technical activity skills. Pupils are directly involved with the assessment and management of risk in all of the activities undertaken; they are encouraged to take the leading role in planning the final excursion.
