Fencing

Fencing is one of the most exciting sports on offer at Heriot's. In recent years the Fencing Club has developed, now offering pupils the chance to become involved in the sport, both as a curricular activity (S4-6 games) and an extra-curricular activity (P7 - S3). The Club offers coaching at Junior and Advanced levels.

We are a small, friendly club with two professional coaches - one of whom has a lengthy association with the club - and provide the opportunity for pupils to take part in one of the world's more unusual sports.

Fencing is widely regarded as a fast and athletic sport requiring speed, skill, dexterity and coordination and both physical and mental strength are needed. We believe that involvement in fencing helps pupils to develop friendship, self-confidence, discipline and is, above all, a really fun way to keep fit!

Many people enjoy the individuality of fencing and participation can be used towards attaining the coveted Duke of Edinburgh award; there is also the opportunity to enter into competitions at different levels - earlier this year 3 Heriot's pupils won the silver medal in the Boys Open sabre at the Scottish Secondary Schools team championships and over the years pupils have competed at National level.

Curricular classes are held on Tuesdays and extra-curricular classes on Tuesdays (Junior and Advanced) and Wednesdays (Junior).
