Choreography Group (P7 to S6)
The aim of the Choreography Group is to give pupils who enjoy dancing the opportunity to use a variety of
dance styles in a creative context. Each weekly session begins with a physical warm-up led by Lis Mackie, a qualified dance teacher who holds the RAD Teaching Diploma and the RAD Teachers Certificate specialising in the teaching of Children. After warm-up, the dancers choose music to which they devise their own choreography. Completed routines are then rehearsed to presentation standard and opportunities for performance are arranged. Last session, for example, the Choreography Group presented two routines for Open Morning, danced in the pantomime chorus and were also given responsibility for creating two of the routines for the school production of "Cinderella".
Choreography Group fulfils the requirements for the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme, and apart from the physical benefits of dancing, participation in the group develops creativity, encourages teamwork and builds confidence. Pupils keep fit and have fun at the same time.
