Chess Club (P5 to S6)
The Chess Club welcomes both beginners and more experienced players. Pupils compete against each 
other and also against a selection of computer programs, with coaching available at all levels, from basic moves to more advanced strategies and consideration of opening and endgame tactics. A set of interactive classpads and a visualiser is used in whole group coaching.
Chess Club participants have the opportunity to take part in the Lothian Primary Schools Chess League and the Scottish Secondary Schools Chess Championship, with both of these competitions having been won by Heriot's in recent years. Chess is also one of the Skills options for pupils working towards the Duke of Edinburgh's Award.
